My Work Is Cut Out For Me... As Usual.
So, the new maps for Resistance: Fall of Man supposedly come out today. The Resistance forums are down right now because everyone's annoyed that they're not out yet. Latest news: they're not coming out because they just found some new bug. I hate that I love you, Sony.
I updated the Counterpunch web site and the Counterpunch MySpace page. Team Player, the first song on the record, is currently #1 in punk on GarageBand. This is awesome of course but I should clarify that the song is not about the current administration as Eric described it on GarageBand... It's more of a disenchanted look at how the people who are supposed to be our teammates (i.e. soldiers in Iraq) are committing atrocities in our name. I guess it pertains more to the Abu Grahib scandal from last year than anything else, although I wasn't referring to any single incident in particular.
Our CD is coming out June 19th, we're having a release show in Palatine on the 16th. Currently we do not have a drummer. This is causing me a good deal of stress. Mickey told Jared that he was afraid to tell us that he didn't want to be in Counterpunch anymore because he didn't want to let anyone down. So instead he left us hanging for a few months. Whatever. I mean, if his heart's not in it, that's cool, he should do what he wants to do. But it would have been nice to just get a phone call telling us so. Even a text message would have been nice. Oh well. I'm not really that upset about it, it's just kind of annoying. Jeff is waiting on his work schedule so he can't give us a straight answer about the 16th or the 21st, although as of yesterday the 16th is "not looking good" for him because I guess a whole bunch of people requested off of work that day. Swell. According to Jared, Mark is on his honeymoon. Jevin just joined another band, and apparently he's having some tiff with Jared, so he's not going to help us out even for a couple of shows. Tim, Jared's friend from Wisconsin that we played with on Sunday, is awesome, but he's indisposed until at least July and he's not sure if he wants to move to the area yet. We're still trying out people, but no one is at the point where they're ready to play a show yet.
So what does that mean? Well it means that we're probably going to have to play with an iPod for our CD release. Which is actually kind of exciting, I'm looking forward to playing a show without any drummer drama. However, it means I have to remix and reprogram a lot of the drum tracks from the record to make them sound right through a PA, and its proving to be fiendishly difficult. I've set a deadline for myself of Tuesday, because we really need to get two practices in before the CD release show on the 16th. On the one hand, it's cool that technology lets you do things like that. On the other, it is nervewracking thinking about going up on a stage with an iPod -- and for our CD release show, no less. I don't know how it will play out.
School is going well, it will be done at the end of this month, which makes me happy. I have an easy paper to write for Saturday and a few articles to read.
I can skateboard again. Can I get a hell yeah?
