Here's the list of bands:
A Static Lullaby, Alkaline Trio, All Time Low, The Almost, Amber Pacific, Bad Religion, Bayside, Biffy Clyro, Big D and the Kids Table, Bleed The Dream, Bless the Fall, Boys Like Girls, Chiodos, Cinematic Sunrise, Circa Survive, Coheed and Cambria, The Confession, Cute is What We Aim For, Escape the Fate, Evaline, The Fabulous Rudies, Funeral For A Friend, Gallows, The Graduate, Hawthorne Heights, Hot Rod Circuit, It Dies Today, Kaddisfly, Killswitch Engage, K-OS, Mayday Parade, The Matches, Meg and Dia, Montie Are I, My American Heart, New Found Glory, Paramore, Parkway Drive, Pepper, P.O.S, Poison The Well, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Revolution Mother, Rocket Summer, Spill Canvas, So They Say, The Starting Line, Straylight Run, Street Drum Corps, Throwdown, Tiger Army, The Toasters, Underoath, The Unseen, Valencia, The Vincent Black Shadow

On that list, there are two or three bands that I don't like at all, one that my friends like but I don't particularly care for, five or six that I've heard from but never been impressed with, and ONE BAND that I absolutely love. The rest I've never heard of.

36 bucks for 25 minutes of Bad Religion. 4 hours in driving time. A sea of annoying people. Surrounded by music that I would turn off if it came on the radio. Plus, I don't even know BR's new album that well, since I've been obsessed with the Police recently.

I think I'm going to skip it. Bad Religion usually tours in the fall anyway, so hopefully I'll see them then.

So, the new maps for Resistance: Fall of Man supposedly come out today. The Resistance forums are down right now because everyone's annoyed that they're not out yet. Latest news: they're not coming out because they just found some new bug. I hate that I love you, Sony.

I updated the Counterpunch web site and the Counterpunch MySpace page. Team Player, the first song on the record, is currently #1 in punk on GarageBand. This is awesome of course but I should clarify that the song is not about the current administration as Eric described it on GarageBand... It's more of a disenchanted look at how the people who are supposed to be our teammates (i.e. soldiers in Iraq) are committing atrocities in our name. I guess it pertains more to the Abu Grahib scandal from last year than anything else, although I wasn't referring to any single incident in particular.

Our CD is coming out June 19th, we're having a release show in Palatine on the 16th. Currently we do not have a drummer. This is causing me a good deal of stress. Mickey told Jared that he was afraid to tell us that he didn't want to be in Counterpunch anymore because he didn't want to let anyone down. So instead he left us hanging for a few months. Whatever. I mean, if his heart's not in it, that's cool, he should do what he wants to do. But it would have been nice to just get a phone call telling us so. Even a text message would have been nice. Oh well. I'm not really that upset about it, it's just kind of annoying. Jeff is waiting on his work schedule so he can't give us a straight answer about the 16th or the 21st, although as of yesterday the 16th is "not looking good" for him because I guess a whole bunch of people requested off of work that day. Swell. According to Jared, Mark is on his honeymoon. Jevin just joined another band, and apparently he's having some tiff with Jared, so he's not going to help us out even for a couple of shows. Tim, Jared's friend from Wisconsin that we played with on Sunday, is awesome, but he's indisposed until at least July and he's not sure if he wants to move to the area yet. We're still trying out people, but no one is at the point where they're ready to play a show yet.

So what does that mean? Well it means that we're probably going to have to play with an iPod for our CD release. Which is actually kind of exciting, I'm looking forward to playing a show without any drummer drama. However, it means I have to remix and reprogram a lot of the drum tracks from the record to make them sound right through a PA, and its proving to be fiendishly difficult. I've set a deadline for myself of Tuesday, because we really need to get two practices in before the CD release show on the 16th. On the one hand, it's cool that technology lets you do things like that. On the other, it is nervewracking thinking about going up on a stage with an iPod -- and for our CD release show, no less. I don't know how it will play out.

School is going well, it will be done at the end of this month, which makes me happy. I have an easy paper to write for Saturday and a few articles to read.

I can skateboard again. Can I get a hell yeah?

So, last Thursday Sony came out with another firmware update for the PS3. This one made it so that DVDs and standard-definition PS and PS2 games are "upconverted" to whatever resolution your PS3 is set to. In my case, that's 1080i output for the computer monitor that I'm using for my PS3 display. I heard about this update and was sort of like, meh... I didn't really think it would make much difference.

I have to say... WOW. Before, things looked really blocky and pixellated, and now... holy crap. I've never seen a regular DVD look so good. I have yet to try a PS2 game, but I'm still working on Shadow of the Colossus, so I'll post back once I play it again.

Good job Sony!

HTML Ampersand Codes

Oh and two posts ago when I was talking about the CAPS LOCK key? Yeah I was fried from finals. But it's cool, I got straight A's! Wheee! I was never a good student in high school, and even my college grades aren't all that great. I hated math and it always pulled my grades down. I always got As and Bs in English though. I don't know why it took me 10 years to figure out that it would be fun to major in it.

So I'm about ¾ of the way through a book called Getting Things Done: The Art of Stress-Free Productivity, by David Allen. You hear about this book all over the place, from Digg to Slashdot to people's blogs -- hell there's an entire website called 43 Folders inspired by concepts in this book. So with all that hype, I finally go so curious that I went and picked it up. And when I got to Borders, it was the last copy on the endcap!

Contrary to what people might think about a "productivity" book, it's not about how to cram more stuff into your schedule. It's more of a nuts-and-bolts approach to actually freeing your mind up from worrying about all the stuff you have to do so you can actually feel good about NOT doing one thing so you can do another.

Really, what David is talking about here is common sense, but it's just that it's very well organized common sense. I don't really think I'm the target audience for this book -- it seems aimed more at mid-level manager types who have a wife and kids and all kinds of things up in the air. Which is fine, because I think it makes it easier for me to put some of his ideas into practice. I am super busy, I mean I have a house to take care of, school, work, a band, etc.

Bottom line: is it worth $15? Yeah, I think so. I bought it, and I'm putting things into practice even as I write this. Good book.

It's not quite the same on a PC because the little light is all the way over on the other side on a PC keyboard.

Some people call this procrastination. I call this enjoying the finer things in life.
